At the May 1st City Council meeting, Santa Barbara Mayor Cathy Murillo proclaimes May CycleMAYnia Month!
WHEREAS, May is celebrated across the country as National Bike Month; and
WHEREAS, in Santa Barbara, in conjunction with the national celebration, Traffic Solutions coordinates CycleMAYnia - a month-long series of events for the community, by the community, such that every resident can organize and lead a bike event; and
WHEREAS, organizers of CycleMAYnia understand that public health is improved through active transportation, and accordingly gear the event as much to the general public as to bike enthusiasts by including events for beginners and experts alike, as well as residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, CycleMAYnia leverages partnerships with the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition and COAST, the efforts of volunteers, and sponsorshipfrom local companies to coordinate this month of bike rides and educational events; and
WHEREAS, more than thirty events are planned for CycleMAYnia 2018, including National Bike to School Day on May 9th the Mayor's Ride on May 16h, and a Bike Challenge BBQ and Awards Ceremony on May 31";
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CATHY MURILLO, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Santa Barbara, do hereby proclaim May 2018 as CycleMAYnia Month in Santa Barbara, and encourage residents to learn more about the bike-related activities taking place throughout the month.
