Event Description

Solar System Cycle is a fun way to experience the expanse of the universe!

Riders will start at the Sun and continue all the way to Neptune, guided along by beautiful planetary chalk-art on the Obern Trail. (Printable guide available here soon.)

The distance from the start of the Obern Trail at Modoc Rd. to Las Cumbres Observatory's headquarters in Goleta is approximately 7.6 miles via the bike path. With the Sun at Modoc Rd. and Neptune at LCOGT (Sorry, Pluto! You got kicked out of the party.), we can find the relative positions of the planets on the path!

The Solar System artwork will be in place starting May 10th. While the ride does not have a start or end time/day, all riders and participants are invited to take part in an Open House on May 11th at the LCOGT facility. Tour the site and learn about the astronomical research happening right here in Goleta!
