This Sunday, May 31st, bike your way down State Street in support for a clean energy future!
The community will gather at City Hall for a community rally with our elected leaders, nonprofits on the front lines of oil spill response, members of the public, and special guests.
After the rally at De la Guerra plaza, the community will bike down State St. towards the waterfront and West Beach. We will use use the bike paths as we take our message to the streets! Upon arrival at West Beach, the community will form a ‘human boom‘ at the water’s edge to symbolically stem the rising black tide.
Bring your bikes, your signs, your partners and friends, your good attitudes and your commitment to a clean and green energy future for Santa Barbara and the rest of the world. Let's lead by example.
Express yourself, but let’s keep it positive. Let’s show the world that the time of clean energy is NOW, and that it's time for us to commit to a clean energy future.
SANTA BARBARA IS THE BIRTHPLACE OF THE MODERN ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT.
Let us re-birth that movement now.

MAKE SOME NOISE
Instruments, home made signs, costumes are all highly encouraged for our walk down State St.! Rumor has it there will be a few giant puppets, stilt walkers and even Mother Earth herself.
Please walk, skateboard, bike or use your special powers to arrive using any means necessary other than fossil fuels.
GREEN CARS / BIKES
If you have an electric vehicle or ‘green car,’ please bring it! We will have a bike valet available at De la Guerra plaza. Deck out your bike in bright and festive colors! ‘Green cars’ should park nearby and will be encouraged to regroup at West Beach after the rally. Feel free to put signage on your car to signify your commitment to alternative/green technologies as you roll down State St. towards the beach.
Please wear YELLOW for our 'human boom.'
We have created a GoFundMe page (www.gofundme.com/standinthesand) to assist in oil spill recovery efforts. All proceeds generated will be directed to the front lines of wildlife and ecosystem recovery. Special thanks to Sierra Club California who has stepped up with a generous contribution to help underwrite costs associated with our rally. If you would like to financially support advocacy, policy change and education around the issue of fossil fuels and clean energy, please consider donating directly to any of Stand in the Sand nonprofit partners found at www.Standinthesand.org.
